The mother, the sister, the wife, the daughter….the list goes on….the role that a woman plays in our lives is unparalleled. Words cannot describe the spirit and strength of a woman, who represents the noble human qualities of compassion, sensitivity, patience and love. Women's day is one day that gives us an opportunity to celebrate womanhood and make the women in our lives feel extra special. In today’s competitive world, women around the world are making a mark in every field and proving themselves to be the best! It is in the spirit of these achievements that jpearls salutes womanhood in all its glory.

From the 1st of March, we salute women who have distinguished themselves in the field of their expertise and give a glittering applause to their skill and abilities.

0n the 1st of March, we will be saluting Mirabai.It is extremely difficult to find a parallel to this wonderful personality -a saint, a philosopher, a poet and a sage. She was a versatile genius and a magnanimous soul. Despite facing criticism and hostility from her own family, she lived an exemplary saintly life and composed many devotional bhajans. She was a princess, but she abandoned the leasures and luxuries incident to her high station, and chose instead a life of poverty. She stood adamant in her resolve.


On the 2nd, we exalt Mother Teresa. A Roman Catholic nun and Indian citizenship, she founded “Missionaries of Charity” in Calcutta. For over 45 years, she ministered to the poor, sick, orphaned, and dying, while guiding the Missionaries of Charity's expansion,received numerous awards including the Nobel Peace Prize, and the Bharat Ratna .Travelling tirelessly the path of entire world, Mother Teresa marked the history of our century. Following her death, she was beatified by Pope John Paul II and given the title "BlessedTeresa ofCalcutta".

On the third of march, we applaud Sunita Williams. The NASA astronaut is proof that there is no stopping a woman on her way up. She was awarded the “SARDAR VALLABHAI PATEL VISHWA PRATIBHA” for her achievements.





On 4th March, we pay tribute to EktaKapoor and BarkhaDutt, under the category of Most Inspirational Women. EktaKapoor is known as the “Queen of Indian Television Industry”. At the 6th Indian Telly Awards 2006 bagged the Hall of Fame award for her contributions. Love them or hate them, you just cannot ignore Balaji serials, who single-handedly founded and made Balaji Telefilms the household name today.BarkhaDutt is one of the most recognized woman journalists in India today. Her reportage from ground zero of the Kargil War made her a household name. Quiz any aspiring journalist about whom they consider to be their ‘idol’ and perhaps this is the name that you will hear the most. Professionally, Barkha’s profile is a repository of enviable career milestones.



On 5th March, under the category of Most Powerful Women, we appreciate KiranBedi, the 1st woman to join the Indian Police service, influencing several decisions of the IPS. Her expertise includes more than 35 years of creative and reformative policing and prison management. She worked with the United Nations in New York as the Police Advisor, in the Department of Peace Keeping Operations. She is referred as Crane Bedi, for her admirable dedication to her work, while dragging the car of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi due to violation of parking rules.


On 6th if March, under the category of Women Writers we Admire, we celebrate Arundhati Roy, who won the coveted Booker Prizein 1997 for her first novel and kept Indian Writing in the world radar with her novel. Roy was awarded “Sydney Peace Prize” in 2004 for her work in social campaigns and advocacy of non-violence. In 2005 she took part in the World Tribunal on Iraq. In 2006, was awarded the SahityaAkademi Award for her collection of essays, “The Algebra of Infinite Justice”, but declined to accept it.


On the 7th of March, under the category of Shinning dynamically in The Business World, we commend ChandaKochchar, who heads ICICI bank and was conferred the “Padma Bhushan” in the year 2011. Under her leadership, ICICI won “The Asian Banker’sBest RetailBank Award” successively in 2003, 2004 and 2005. Kochhar says she believes in four quadrants of a woman’s life, work, family, self and others.

On 8th of March, under the category of Most Desirable Woman, we acknowledge India's most beautiful and greatest actress of all-time, Sridevi, who ruled Indian cinema with incredible performances for nearly two decades. This Queen Bee is now all set to light up the silver screen once again. That's not all; the actress also owns a cricket team now! A loving wife, a doting mother, a talented actress and a successful businesswoman - now that's what we call PERFECT!
